Mabel alighted and helped Cynthia who was holding her
waist with one hand. They waited for Margret to lock her car. Then they went
towards Dr. Obinna’s office. When they got to the office, they met Dr Obinna’s
junior, a lady doctor, who told them that he was attending to a patient in the
inner room.
“Attending to patient,”
Margret said, looking at Mabel. “Inner room ke.”
“You and your corrupt mind,”
Mabel said to her.
They laughed.
“How long will it take?” Mabel
asked the lady.
“I wouldn’t know,” she
replied. “Did you come on personal visit or for medical reasons?”
“For medical reasons.”
“I can start seeing you until
he comes out.”
“Don’t bother yourself. It is
him we came to see.”
“Ok, but do you have a folder
with us so I can get it?”
“No we don’t o.”
“Please can I sit down?”
Cynthia asked the lady.
“Yes please,” she replied and
pointed at some empty chairs and asked them to sit while she notifies Dr Obinna
of their presence.
They sat.
“Who do I tell him is here to
see him?” she asked Mabel.
“Mabel and Cynthia.”
“Oh Mabel. He told me to
expect you but you took longer than expected. You are welcome.”
“Thank you.”
She informed Dr
Obinna of their arrival and came out.
“He said he will soon see you,” she told
Mabel.
After a while, a
young man came out of the inner office and handed over a prescription note to
the lady doctor.
“Let me take him to the
pharmacy,” Doctor Obinna’s junior told Mabel. “Wait for Doctor Obi to come
out.”
“Ok,” Mabel replied.
She left with the young man. It wasn’t up to 2
minutes and Dr Obinna came out. Mabel and Cynthia got up and side-hugged
him.
“Mabel, how are you?” he
asked.
“Fine o,” Mabel responded.
“And you Cynthia?”
“I am not fine o,” Cynthia
answered.
“Don’t worry you will be fine.
I will examine you now.”
“Did this pretty lady come
with you?” Dr Obinna asked pointing at Margret.
“Yes that’s my friend that
brought us,” Mabel replied.
“I am Margret,” Margret said
offering her hands for a handshake.
“You will not hug me?” Dr
Obinna said, shaking her.
Margret smiled.
They exchanged pleasantries.
“Is she single?” Dr Obinna
whispered to Mabel.
“You are married o,” Mabel replied.
“And so? A second wife is not
a bad thing na.”
They laughed.
“Come on into the office,” he
told them and led the way.
“What about getting folder and
stuff?” Mabel asked.
“It is not necessary for now
unless there is a major issue to handle, then we will need documentation.”
“Ok.”
Mabel and Cynthia
followed him in.
“I will wait for you here,”
Margret told them.
“Will you be comfortable here?”
“Yes. I will be fine.”
Inside the
office, Dr Obinna asked Cynthia some questions, and then checked her vital
signs. When he was done with those, he told Cynthia to lie on the medical bed
in the office. He touched and pressed some spots on her back and asked some
more questions, in order to know the origin of the pain. When he was done, he
asked her to get up.
“I don’t like what I am
suspecting,” He said to Mabel and shook his head.
